Old Porsche prices are crazy

Yes, the 996's go for about $15-20k, but he had two 997's. Seems like the market for those is about $30-40k. Granted the one I rented was pretty worn out and had 100k miles. I could see a little side business working out with a couple 996's.

I have a car that I don't drive much that would be a good candidate for this service, but I would be way too worried about my clutch. Most people have no idea how to match revs. I read the fine print on their website about "normal wear and tear"- any ding/scratch less than 3" is considered normal wear tear. So the renter can rash all your wheels, get a few door dings, and you are completely SOL. No thanks, I'll just leave my car on the trickle charger...

Agree. This whole thing is nuts unless your car is already kinda trashed. Even then, after consumables, you're making pennies. And taking liability, regardless of what the agreements say.

Consumable aside, you know for sure your car is going to be driven like a rental .. even if its my $20k Honda, I don't see $100 / day being worth it. Not unless I didn't give a shit about the car anymore and am just trying to milk all the value out of it before I dump it on some other sucker.

The guy selling needs a kick in the balls.
I wouldn't give a hundred bucks for that. Is there anything on there thats salvageable?
Looks like it was stored on a beach somewhere that the tide cold reach.

If he included everything on that rack in the yard behind you wouldn't get $26K worth of junk.

Hey, this car is in Fair condition. I could understand the criticism if it was in Poor condition but this one is fair.

You'd be surprised, some movie producer might buy it for a prop

I was approached to sell my Mini (63' Cooper S) for a movie. Those bastards were cheap asses and I sent them back to LA sans car. They came to "buy" and tried to lowball once here. Considering the rarity of that car, they probably had to go for something else, because there was no way they could have found one for the price they offered me (not even an 850 or 1000, let alone a "S" with a built 1275).

Ballsy move putting that thing up on a lift.

My wife just :wow at the proposed price. Apparently she had one rotting away in a field out behind her barn in Georgia for a decade or so. :laughing

I sold my '76 Carrera 3.0 grey market smog exempt CARB stickered car for $10K six (?) years ago. I had it for sale for quite a while. It was very clean. Go figure.

I did really not like the way it drove that much. The front was quite light and got very darty over 120 mph. I like my 914 better.

Edit: it was ten years ago, before the housing crash. http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118228&highlight=Carrera

That was a nice car Butch! The only car I have ever regretted selling was my white 911SC coupe. Sold it around 1990. Really neat car.... but as a previous owner, no way would I pay the $35-50K they get for them now. :wtf You would have to really appreciate the "vintage" feel and drive to pay that for one.

Also owned a 944s and a 1987 924s. I laugh when I see somebody trying to fix up one of the 944's they got cheap thinking they got a steal.....

944s are neat little cars, but it's no 911 and who wants to change timing belts all the time?

So you are basically getting a title, vin plates, and glass minus a windshield for $26K, haha they are out of their mind. Would love to see the chump that buys that. Not even worth buying to swap paperwork to title a kit car.

What would be a reasonable price for this rust bucket? I am tempted to contact them and offer $100.

The one I gave away

er, one of them.
I dunno, bought it for 11K and sold if for 14k in a couple hours,
I kinda liked it because it wa much heavier than my other Carrera, which was pretty darty...

I stuck in my buddies garage when he was gone, didn't tell him, and he found it when he got home, keys and registration on the dash. I am just that kinda guy.

the one that didn't get away

I can't find a pic of the Carrera 3.0 that CJ referenced, but I still have this one. I prolly could not get much for it on the market because it is not stock. It has some other engine in it, like a 993, that decreases its value considerably.
Go figure.
