pge liable for camp fire?

You, me or anybody else does not know how the fire started at this point.

:laughing

"At 6:15 a.m., a Pacific Gas & Electric Co. high-voltage line near the Poe Dam generating station six miles away malfunctioned. A report of fire came at 6:29."

"In a previous regulatory report, PG&E, which operates in the northern part of California, said it experienced an outage on a transmission line on the morning of Nov. 8 near the town of Pulga, near where the fire is thought to have started."

So, *IF* it was your tree that fell across the PG&E lines and started this massive fire, PG&E is liable?

That's the arrangement in real life, yes, but instead of moving the goal post, feel free to ask some legitimate questions like, "should PGE continue servicing high risk areas since they're unable to do it without killing people?".

Welcome to human land. There's some ambiguity here and that's why we use words like "reasonable doubt" instead of "know for a fact".

Well, regarding that question, there are multiple components to it:

should they continue providing service in high risk areas
should they charge more for said service, as it's more expensive to provide

And should the town of "Pleasure" even rebuild? Not talking about stopping it, because murica, but..is that the right/best choice?

They'd get about 30-40 years free of major fires, now that the under brush has been burned.

Any rebuild plan should include more, and better evacuation routes.

Go back and read post #8. It appears he may know something about power lines. Additionally, afaik, the line in question 115kv did not go to the ground. They did report damage to the tower though.

There’s outages all day long up and down the state.

Or maybe they weren't lines at all. Maybe there's a monkey rescue farm out there and the owners planted vines for them to swing from tree to tree and the firefighters mistook a downed monkey vine for a downed power line. You never know and we don't want to jump to conclusions and you're right it's best to be safe.

Whether or not PGE caused the fire, if conditions are such that a spark can erase a town then disaster was just a matter of time. Something has to be done to reduce the risk.

I know a little bit about power lines too.
You're digging your heels in on this for some reason so I'll let it be, but you're arguing in the face of a mounting pile of evidence. :Port

Paradise was the worst of all the California towns that I have seen, in terms of forest inside the city limits, long forested stretches in the town, heavy forest around most homes, and lots of brush. It was a disaster waiting to happen. Check out Google maps before they update it to show the burn. Most of the town is heavily forested.

That's the kind of town I would never live in, and am always surprised that not everyone agrees with me. Go figure.

The concentration of senior citizens was also a contributing factor along with the fact there is one road ingress and egress. CHP had to keep the eastbound lane open for incoming emergency vehicles. What an absolute prescription for disaster from a logistical perspective. Towns like that should have emergency lanes down the middle of two lanes.

Given PG&Es history, im not at all surprised of the public lynching and blame game.

Theres more that goes into it than just, a line went down started a fire and killed people and pg&e is to blame. Thats all im saying. I build and maintain powerlines. People are out there shooting at lines ALL the fucking time. And throwing shit over transmission lines causing damage to the wire. Its PG&Es fault. Storm comes through, poles and lines go down its pg&es fault. We cant prevent mother nature. Now, if its negligent maintenance or repairs i feel its deserving. Itll take its course and i'll still be out there in the middle of the night getting your power back on. :thumbup

Its a very sad and devastating event.

Not one person is saying it's PGE's fault if someone was out there destroying things, except you and you're doing it manipulatively to couple it together with things that actually are PGE's fault. In case you don't see it, I'll give an example: Oh man people are so sensitive today, you can't even help an old lady across the street, give a woman a compliment, date rape a friend, give a girl some flowers...people are just taking things too far.
