Plus Size Models

I am shocked and dismayed that a thread targeting women that don't meet society's aesthetic standard would go downhill.

Aesthetic standard? Or aesthetic ideal/pinnacle/whatever "end" of the spectrum?

OTOH, there are plenty of countries who have far "worse" diets that manage to maintain a far skinnier/healthier/whatever population than we do here in the US, so...maybe it is/should be the standard to be relatively skinny?

From my understanding, the whole "plus" label is simply "bigger than 0" not meant to imply fatness or anything (when it comes to the modeling world). I've heard that the reason behind the whole skinny model thing has far more practicality / pragmatism to it than any body shaming, because it's easier to design and make the clothing for the shows with less material used / wasted.

But what the fuck do I know, I don't work in fashion. Does make a certain amount of sense from a manufacturing standpoint though.

I don't mind discussing it but it's a touchy topic and people tend to be mean to fat people.

How tall is Hulk Hogan?
He was billed at 6'7"-6'9" while wrestling, but the picture below with Sylvester Stallone who has probably never been truly 5'10" pretty much belies that....which begs the question as to how much they are inflating pro wrestlers sizes....

The put a watermark in their photo's for a reason. Hands off copyright.
They earn their $$ procuring and reselling. I would prefer we don't post their images please.

Thanks

This is a topic that has been getting a lot of attention lately from the media. Have you seen some of these models? They look good to me, they're babes!

I realize it's not one size fits all. I just can't imagine there is that many men that go for the sickly, anorexic look. They look like they would break.

What is wrong with the modeling/fashion industry? Are women finally going to promote solidarity and stand up for themselves?

Looks are not the only thing that makes a woman interesting.

The weight of money can make it nearly impossible to stick up for yourself.

Models don't influence or control that business, money does.

Take Oprah for example, she makes a lot of money telling women how to lose weight and does so by manipulating her own. Daily she tells those who follow her ideas that they don't need to accept themselves as they are but by sending money to some company they can become acceptable to society. This from someone who routinely balloons to epic porportions just so another episode in weight loss remains current. Who is going to stand up to that?

It is a fallacy that men really care that much about the weight of a woman. For each body type and weight there are plenty of men attracted to them. The same is true of the reverse.

Weight hazardous to health in any direction is another story.

Diamonds often start out twice their ending size. It is entirely arguable if the smaller cut diamond is worth as much.

Actually, I would argue that perception plays the biggest role in the modeling business, the money follows the perception.

You seem to be implying that Oprah gains weight on purpose to profit from the weight loss, I personally don't think that is the case, I think that she is a naturally heavy woman and when she's not losing weight she's putting it on. It's pretty common for most Billionaires to be too busy making money to put in the time working out.

Also, a portion of the men do care about a woman being heavier, it's a fallacy to say that men don't care, sorry but it's a fact of life just as some women like taller guys, some like darker complexions, some like straight hair on men. It's a way nature works, everybody has their own pattern that attracts them.

Oprah didn't make her fortune telling people how to lose weight.
That would be like Honey Boo boo telling people how to lose weight.
But Oprah is a black woman, just sayin.

If you were to ask American women to take a survey and assemble their "ideal guy" using a checklist of attributes, probably 80% of them would choose "dark brown or black" under the haircolor choice.

Is it any wonder that most male actors and models have dark hair?

In contrast, if you asked men to describe their "ideal woman", their answers would be more evenly split across the colors, and many men would have no preference at all.
