It looks like you pretty much have to hire a mercenary companion. I'm a feline thief, light-armored, axe-and-shield, and a sabre cat is a tough match up. Now I'm finding shitloads of bandits grouped together, and now necromancers. WTF, the apprentices and novices are jacking me up?
An axe-thief?
I am a bosmer thief-ish build, I switch between sneaking with a bow, dual-wielding a mix of swords and daggers, and single-wielding with a heal spell. When there are a lot of enemies (5+) you have to pick them off one by one. When there are about 3, attack one and knock him off before his buddies get to you. Other than that, if you wind up aggro'ing 3+ just do your best to run around to split them up, and attack when they are separated. Boosting stamina early is useful for that (sprinting). Consider adding a bow to your repertoire, you don't have to be full-on bow+kiting, but it can really help to lead a fight with a few good shots. It also makes it a bit easier to split up a group of enemies.Later on, I am getting a lot of good use out of oakflesh/stoneflesh/ironflesh and dual swords, plus my 200+ stamina which lets me dual power attack 2x before recharging stamina.
P.S. Don't forget poisons! Also resist fire and resist ice, if mages are taking you down. You're a thief, you're supposed to be big on the potions.
Hey I stumbled upon some Dwemer steampunk robot pieces in an unmarked area. I guess I should keep them.
Some of those dwemer bits can be smelted to make dwemer ingots (for crafting dwarven gear)- mainly, I believe, the struts, plates and a couple whose names have "metal" in them... but the cog/gears and small dwemer scrap metal, just sell. Also, save the dragon bits if you want to make dragon armor later
