But the part of LA where these shootings happen has way less than 400,000 people. Except on weekends, when shootings happen all over the county.

Well, if you want to qualify like that, the place where shootings happen in Oakland is in like two places where the same 30,000 hood rats live. A significant portion of Oakland isn't that bad and its actually been getting better for a couple of years now. Jerry Brown's 10k plan was a great start.
 
Rockridge seemed apathatic, so I dashed to City Hall.

Met some interesting people - including a city IT worker. He asked me some tough questions. I hope he doesn't lose his job.

So all this talk about cutting the police, but what about cutting the fire department? Why do they have a no lay off clause in their contract? why not black out some stations for a few days, and use that money to save a few cops?

Let's try and keep in mind that there are about 250-500 people actually interested in rioting, and 99.8% of the citizens of Oakland want to watch the tube and eat potato chips.
