The Official 2015/2016 NFL Thread

I dunno. He might be the fresh start dood, that does better elsewhere. As a Niner, his lack of chemistry with Kaep has been painful.

I dunno. Just looking over his stats I'd say his most productive and efficient string of games were with Kaep.

But when I look over his entire time with the 49ers he's just an average WR. Not a number one. And not even a possession guy. He's just...meh.

P.S. Had to add "string of" in there to show his only bout of consistency was with Kaep.

But Cooper is probably a legit #1 Guy as a rookie out of the gate. Crabtree isn't great, but he isn't bad and James Jones still has some good hands with gas left in the tank. That is a reallly decent deep slot set if they can land Cooper and Crabtree, especially if they can get a good play action to TE working.

Again, Eldy, I dunno.
There have been so many high level draft prospects at the WR position who have done nothing in the NFL I have decided that a WR should not be judged on what they're capable of until they actually show it for a few years. Cooper (I'm assuming you're talking about Amari) is just another "potentially" great player.

I've concluded that if you want a great WR corps make sure you have a great QB. And don't make any big bets on a draft prospect. For the Raiders they'd be better off getting a solid veteran 1/2 and then draft a kid with "high upside" (I almost vomit whenever I say/read that fucking term). And, in my book at least, Crabtree is not a solid veteran 1/2.

Well, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Amari Cooper is going to be the next Megatron, but the kid seems like a solid cat that can contribute right away and Carr sure seems legit.

He may be the next big thing. And if Carr can build on what he started last year I'd say he's going to be a top-flight NFL QB. I'm saying the Raiders would be better off building on a solid, veteran 1/2 and drafting potential. I wouldn't label Crabtree as a solid, veteran 1 or 2.

'cept that Richard Sherman OWNS him. :laughing

Crabs, dude, Crabs....

Uhm...where did I ever say I thought Crabtree was legit? Pretty much everyone owns him. That's why I think bringing him to the Raiders would be a bad idea. And it's easy to see the rest of the NFL is in agreement with me. It's why he's been on the market for so long. He thinks he's worth more than the market is willing to pay. The Raiders need a solid 1/2 at WR. And, my opinion anyway, they need to avoid thinking they're going to pick that up in the draft. I say think of WR draft picks as long shots. Don't ever expect them to actually achieve anything even if they are first/second rounders. Sure, if you have a pic available to get someone who looks like they're going to be great then pull the trigger. Just don't ever expect them to be. And make damn sure you have veterans who've already proven themselves on the roster.

I'm not all that high on Crabtree either. funny how we used to bag on each other on who's better: him or Heyward-Bay. as it turns out, neither were all that good (to prove your point).

I understand this thinking, however, the Raiders in particular have had very bad luck in picking up top-flight wideouts only to see them vastly underperform. I'm thinking Randy Moss, Andre Rison, Javon Walker, etc. Only Jerry Rice comes to mind as meeting expectations, and that's probably because he's, well, Jerry fucking Rice. Not to mention that there's no more top WRs available in free agency anyways.

Unless by some miracle that DE from USC is on the board at #4, then I think a young WR that can compliment and grow with Carr is a solid choice based on a good philosophy. Of course everything can go sideways with any player...hell, JaMarcus Russel was the consensus #1 pick. But I think it would have potential to turn into an Aikman-Irvin or Manning-Harrison type relationship. :fingerscrossed

There is talk now of the Giants Crabtree up instead of Hakeem Nicks. Crabtree behind Cruz and Beckham is a pretty terryfiying receiving corps.

Honestly though, if Jerry Rice dragged his sorry ass out of retirement to play behind OdB and Cruz it would be a pretty scary receiving corps.

I think you have me confused with someone else. I don't think I've ever been very high on KingCrabs. It's okay though. I won't hold it against you :)
I agree that you take your chances on anyone you bring in. But at least a guy whose already performed at a high level in the NFL has actually performed in the NFL. The same can never be said of a rookie.

As long as everyone stays healthy. Cruz may be too fragile to continue in the NFL for much longer. His stats show a marked decline. And I don't think I'm going out on a limb in suggesting it's due to injury. Part of it is the result of teams defending him better. But I think the majority of it is due to him being too fragile.

Nah, the only injury problem he had was when he got taken out last season. The rest of it is from a decline in talent around him making him Eli's only option, which is easy to defend, right? There is a bit of a question mark after that torn patellar tendon. Dude is only 28, but that can be a career changing injury. All that said, he was a top notch #1 guy until OdB showed up to legitimately compete for best in the NFL. If Cruz is off half a step and is our #2, I am still not worried about targets at the Meadowlands this year, especially with Shane Vereen catching the screen pass.

Mods, can we ban? :nchantr

Bruh, he is 52. Not a baller anymore. :laughing

Why'd he miss the last two games of the 2013 season?

He suffered a foot injury in the pre-season that he had played on all year after playing 16 games straight the previous 2 years. Eli threw 5 picks against Seattle that last game and so the season was our first flush of the Coughlin era, why not let him rest the last 2 since we weren't going anywhere?

TBH, he looks like he could go run a few routes still.

I was under the impression that he suffered a knee injury in the Seattle loss as well. And if I remember the hit I do recall his leg being twisted to fuck before he smashed his noggin' into the turf causing the concussion. The reports were that he had a "clean-up" done on his knee. Probably would have been done in the off-season anyway. But still. Warriors gotta be warriors. My money is on him not being of the durable kind.

You're still right about it being scary even if he is the #2. He and ODBJr are going to raise holy hell with secondaries this year...if Cruz can stay healthy. If not ODBJr will just be Cruz2.0. Even if Cruz has lost a full step he's still better than Crabs.

Yeah and Larry Donnell had a couple of pretty badd ass catching Tight End games last year. In a weirdly uncharistic year for the Giants, we seem to be having a pretty exciting year propping up on Offense, but our D is kind of a slopped together heap of question marks and probably nots.
