ZX14 or Hayabusa?

Another forum I participate in had a similar thread this summer (as BARF has had many times before). The OP wanted to know if he needed the latest, greatest, liter+ version of the model in question. He was concerned that he might be shortchanging himself if he didn't get all the latest upgrades. Some folks urged him to get an older version, or a smaller version, or a dual-sport as referenced above. Others just enabled the OP's desire to have the coolest bike possible. He went with the enablers and bought the latest, greatest.

That was April. So far as I know, he has wadded the bike twice (both single vehicle crashes that were the OP's fault). It now has a salvage title, and the OP is wondering if motorcycling is just too dangerous, probably because his co-workers have told him this. At no time has the OP taken any responsibility for his original choice, or his overall lack of competence as a rider. He has been counseled to take advanced riding courses, etc., but he's either too busy or they cost too much, yada-yada. BTW, the bike in question has VASTLY less power than either of the bike you're asking about.

So, if the tone of some to the posts seem harsh and critical, it's because the posters have seen this before, and suspect that the question being asked is so silly that it must be a joke. You are sticking to your original story and suggesting that it's not a joke, so now the temptation is just to conclude that you're doomed, and the only way you're likely to get them to think otherwise is to catch a clue.

Good luck,

get the busa, they have the new power switch which will help you learn how to ride the bike, then when your comfortable you can go to the next setting for a little more power:teeth

seriously though ive always been one of those people who thinks "get whatever bike you want" and learn to ride it, BUT in this case i dont think you have any buissness on either bike you suggested and i still think your a troll:twofinger

I am only looking for opinions on the two bikes. I am an adult and take responsibility for my actions. That said, I would appreciate it if further responses would refrain from lectures on my safety.

Screw it. Get a Tomahawk and be done with it.

Ok:

Hayabusa: Absurdly fucking fast.
ZX14: Absurdly fucking fast.

You won't be able to tell the difference between the performance aspects of them when your life depends on it. It doesn't matter which one you buy. Buy whichever one is more shiny. Don't finance it, because it sucks making payments on a bike that doesn't exist anymore. Then again, i have a sinking feeling that you won't be around to deal with it in the first place.

Did you know that when you die all debts against you are erased? So at least you won't pass on the debt of your bike to your family. Silver lining, my friend.

Seriously: You have no clue what you are getting into. This is the equivelent of us telling you that the stove is hot and that you're going to burn the hell out of yourself and you saying I KNOW WHAT COOKING IS, AND I DON"T NEED POTS OR ANYTHING TO DO IT RIGHT.

Besides, you're just a poser: Real men get Concours 14's. :twofinger

If you're serious and not wasting people's time, consider listening to the voice of experience. There are certain realities to look at here. If this was a mountain climbing forum, nobody in their right mind would try Mount Everest their first time out. If you have any riding experience at all, you know that you can get into trouble faster than you can say "Oh SHIT!" If you have no experience, you can't know what you don't know about these cutting edge machines. Neither bike is beginner friendly. If you care about staying alive, consider starting off on something that you can learn on without crashing in the first 30 seconds.

I was expecting some hideously gory pic of some new rider splattered across his hayabusa. You let me down, alan, you let me down. :mad

why are you so dead set on those 2? really? and dont say its because your a big guy, come clean. i have seen plenty of bigger guys on 600's, 750's, even 500's. if its because someone said you should get it, then just say so....

if you are going to try to use a power argument, then maybe you should do some number checking. lets look at the hayabusa. the power (i dont stand by these numbers, just a quick search showed them) is 172 hp, and the weight is 546 lbs wet. a dodge ram truck has 215 hp, and weighs in at 6700 lbs. the dodge ram weighs 12 times more then the hayabusa. im pretty sure the dodge ram has more then enough power to pull you around.

why not look into some of the bmw's? those are larger bikes, same with the buell, or ktm adventure's... or suzuki vstrom, or yamaha's FZ's? there are plenty of other options if you look around that would be better suited.

Msteinberg you have no idea what your getting into, buying a 200 mph crotch rocket is nothing like buying a sports car, mastering a sportbike is not easy the only thing that comes close is a jet fighter, just ask a fighter pilot who rides, if you don't want to listen to the guys here who are really trying to save your life, please hold off and get more info and talk to people you trust, you are being suduced snap out of it.

If you are getting one of the two, maintenace wise the Busa is easier to work on. Other than that, get one you fill the most comfortable on.

...I am leaning towards the Hayabusa because it looks better but in terms of maintenance, dependability and performance, they're pretty evenly matched, right?

Michael

They are both excellent bikes and pretty evenly matched. Easy to buy too, both Suzuki and Kawasaki offer revolving-credit type loans so you're not forced to spend a ton of money on comprehensive insurance. (the insurance industry is a huge scam)

Really it just comes down to which one you like.

Get either bike but put a governor on the throttle. IIRC that is how they do it where they have tiered licensing like in Britain. You must be able to import the system to the states. This way the man can look badass on his Busa but only have access to the Busa's right nut.

This thread is just like a thousand other threads. The man wants to ride but doesn't want to peddle his sister's Ninja 250 to earn his bones. He is in to riding for the image and the DS image isn't what he's looking for. He wants a big dog for his big ass.

I'm surprised the motorcycle marketplace hasn't filled this need yet. Why don't we see governing power commanders for these bikes in the states? It seems like a slam dunk for some business. The rider gets his bling. The insurance company gets their money. The dealer gets his new bike sale. And last the aftermarket provider gets money a sale of the device. The only question in my book is the litigious end of the argument.
