BARF Militia

OK - you can just give them to me :)

I'll take the Redhawk, the Vaquero, and the Nova. :teeth

Well, one of the reasons I can freely say that is that I've never sold a firearm and never will. I'm a gun packrat. ;)

I finally finished cleaning my M1a tonight, and mounting the removable scope mount. Now I'm ready to go sight in and shoot the CMP match on Saturday!

I followed the guidelines in the M1A Book by Scott Duffey. One of his big points is that you use GREASE on the metal parts that rub, not oil, because oil just splashes away, but grease sticks.

On top of that, I read a big article somewhere recently about how using oil on external parts that can't "retain" the oil is a dumb idea, and grease is better in those places.

So, I'm going to try that on my 1911, if I can find the hex wrench to remove the guide rod so I can clean it good. I'll let you know how it works!

Which mount did you get?

The Springfield brand mount. I bought the "Loaded" rifle 9'bout two years ago), and it came with a coupon to get all kinds of SA stuff at a big discount. So, I got two of the mounts, a 6x scope, a bunch of knives, some shirts, and a bunch of magazines.

For those who want a Glock, Sportsmen's Supply has them on sale right now for $489.

I want to buy a gun. What do you recomend for a girl? I'm 5'3" and 182Lbs. I have shooten some rifles only.

You looking at pistols? Rifles? Shotguns? All of the above?

The best thing to do is to go out there and shoot several different ones to get a feel for what you want and what you can handle.

Places like http://www.reedsindoorrange.com/ and http://www.jacksonarms.com/ rent a variety of pistols you can try out.

I don't know of any ranges that rent long guns but a bunch of us in this thread go to Metcalf or Chabot about twice a month. We've got a pretty decent arsenal and not averse to sharing our sport with newbies. PM me or B12Bill if you want to shoot with us sometime.

How much you want for the other mount? :teeth

I'd probably trade for some 9mm, lemme think about it though. I had planned on using it to mount a second scope, like a red dot or something, but the probability of that actually happening is pretty low.

Hi Jen!

.22 handguns are always a good choice. Check the Social Gatherings forum - the girls are planning a trip to Targetmasters in Milpitas on Thursday of next week. Women don't pay range fees on Thursday there, so the only expense will be gun rentals and ammo, but depending on how many people bring guns, that might take care of itself.

For handguns, your overall size and weight don't really matter, it all comes down to hand size and shape. You just need to get out and hold as many guns as possible, to see what feels best in your hands.

I am looking to install some Trijicon night sights to the 1911. Anyone have any recommendations? Good discounts online?

Would probably need a G Smith to install them as well.

Any local bay area ones?

Thanks a lot guys, now my girl friend wants that pink Beretta :x

And her birthday is coming up. She's gonna have her heart set on it. You guys suck :(
