BARF Militia

I just bought a P226 and am hoping I enjoy it. It's certainly the most expensive handgun I've bought so far.

Is there anywhere local that I can pick up steel targets, or better yet, abrasion resistant steel rems? I can weld, so I can build my own stand etc, but I'd like something for when I head out to BLM land on occasion with friends. Steel is a lot more fun than paper, but I'd prefer something serious rather than mild steel so that it'll last a bit longer.

thanks goose!

Both of my wrists were destroyed in motorcycle accidents and reassembled with plates and screws so I'm a bit recoil sensitive myself.

I think you are on the right track by letting her make the decision without too much external influence. Most guys want to put some dainty, lightweight firearm like an LCP or something in their hands assuming it will be easier for them to shoot if it's smaller. As you surmise this is a big mistake. Those types of guns are much harder to shoot and for many, especially women they are down right unpleasant. If it's not fun, she won't shoot it.

I am also Glock biased but the grip which fits me is too large for a lot of people. A 9mm 1911 could be the ticket but Sigs are great. I've never heard of anyone not like shooting Sigs. I would try to find one with a short reset trigger to help with reach. Never shot a compact CZ but that is something to look at as well. Especially with prices so good http://www.kygunco.com/category.cfm/keenes/CZ-Handguns
and the new 9mm Range Officer from Springfield is something I may buy myself one day.

Happy hunting.

I can ask our boss at the range to figure out where he orders the ar500 if that is something you would be interested. I know we get it locally.

the sp2022 to me has a crisper and cleaner break than my 226 imo.

@goose the compact cz's i have shot are soft shooters as well and they have buttery triggers that have been worked on. PCR or a 75 compact are nice

I can make my own stands and mounts no problem. Putting holes in the AR500 would be the only difficult thing for me.

That one is black coated stainless. It's what I'm picking up :teeth

Didn't know that. Something about the stainless color that really appeals to me.

It's so pretty :drool

Reloading supplies are plentiful right now via Gunbot. I just turned a friend on to H1000 being available. :thumbup

X-5 is such a large frame gun and for the price, I'd go high end 1911.

I guess it's a matter of preference.

I like 1911's but having shot a stainless X5 with wood Nill grips and well sorted Springfield TRP side by side I'd take the X5. No contest.

Maybe it's just because I have a 1911 and don't have an X5...

stainless and wood are beautiful!

The X5 sounds nice, but at almost double the price, that's a hard price to swallow. Can you talk to me about the X5 Allround? $300 increase is easier to digest, but doesn't have the wood grips :(

The X5 all around is just another DA/SA sig. It's most like the stainless elite with plastic grips, 5" barrel, slightly longer frame with beavertail, and target sights. If you want the awesome X5 SAO trigger in stainless, the X5 competition is the one you're after. If you don't care and would get the DA/SA, then you're better off just getting the stainless elite and losing roughly half an inch of barrel.

Keep in mind that out of all the X5 series and the stainless elite, the X5 Competition is the only one on the roster.

There are way too many choices... the correct answer is to buy them all.

Doing CZ research and now want one. Thanks!! CZ 85 combat has good reviews, off roster. Spo1 tactical in 9mm (decocker) is the other. Full size but the compacts look nice. All will be gone may 2015 :(
