BARF Militia

Actually, it's funny because HK did that in an official publication. I couldn't find a good picture of it, though. (alt link)

Wah?? :wow

or get the refund, snitch dude out and play the sympathy card with the mfg about how you will have to pay more now for it. Who knows maybe they will get you a better deal just so they don't lose you as a customer :devil

Very True!!

I was wondering, I was at the Cow Palace gun show last weekend, and saw multiple people carrying pistols out in the open for everyone to see. Mostly customers just browsing around. One guy had the whole cowboy thing going on with 2 6in barreled revolvers on his hip, and bare naked ammo placed all around the belt, chaps, spurs, the whole works. Were these people breaking any laws? I doubt they all had CCW's. Or they must gotten them up in the North Country of Shasta or something. Oh and did anyone see the asian dude in the little pink dress looking like Alice in Wonderland?

No laws broken. Open carry (unloaded) is perfectly legal in CA (so long as it's not a prohibited area like a courthouse or school).

Here's a run down of the law.

Since I was a little kid my dad has always taken me shooting and hunting. I have a few rifles and shotguns, mainly for deer and pheasant hunting. Yesterday a buddy of mine and I decided to go shooting at the range in Santa Clara (I forget the name) and rented 4 of their .45 pistols.

Initially, I had really wanted a Glock 23 just because I hear Glocks are a good gun for both target shooting and home defense/hunting sidearm. Yesterday, however, I shot the Glock 37 .45 GAP which, admittedly, has a different grip and feel than the Glock 23, but I was surprised at how much I didn't really like shooting the Glock. The grip wasn't as comfortable as I thought (too wide/thick) and the recoil seemed to be greater than some of the other .45's we fired.

The other guns we rented were the 1911 (I forget which mfgr. it was, since my friend picked that one out), but it jammed constantly like 2 or 3 times per 8 shots. The grip was better because it was narrower and the recoil was very manageable, but I still didn't really develop any connection with that particular model firearm.

The second two guns we rented were the HK and SIG 220 both in .45. The HK looked like it would be really nice to shoot, and while it was better (IMO) than the Glock and the 1911, it still felt like something was off while firing it.

Lastly was the Sig 220, and all I have to say is hot damn! I found my first pistol to add to the collection, albeit a bit pricey compared to a Glock, but not too bad. The grip was the most comfortable, the recoil wasn't bad which made the pistol easy to shoot, and everything just seemed comfortable with this gun. After talking with the employees at the range, whoe were all very friendly and helpful, I decided that the exact gun would probably be a Sig 220 in all stainless steel (no aluminum), to add wight for less recoil and gun longevity. I know gun preference is really subjective, but do you all think of this particular gun? :troy

My groupings were shitty all day, since I have mainly shot rifles in the past, but this isn't something a little range time couldn't fix. Damn I had fun though. :laughing

Not exactly sure what you are talking about with the 1911. Those guns are sweet.... there is a reason that gun design has been around for ~100 years. No as far as the reason it was jamming up so much is prolly cus it hasnt been as well maintained, or the ammo.

:drool 1911.....USP....:drool

and +1 to what Vento said...most guns rented at the range arent that well maintained....its out in use more then once a day, depending on who rents it...no time to clean it until its closing time

Yep, that sounds about right. You really wouldn't like the G23, it's even fatter than the 37. HK's a pig, too. 1911 has a long narrow grip, which puts all the controls in the wrong spot except for the thumb safety. The Sig is just right.

Now go buy it and rub Mike T's face in it! :party

any of you guys have or shot a S&W 4006 TSW in .40S&W? if so what are your thoughts on it

What kind of ammo were you using? My 1911 won't feed JHP to save it's life, but it'll feed FMJ all day with no issues. Some of the higher end 1911's like Kimber will feed JHP with no issues.

Also, don't ever base a firearms reliability on those rental guns. Like it's been mentioned, they're not maintained well.

Yeah, I totally hear you (and everyone else) on the condition of the rentals. They had a lot of powder around the muzzle and just looked dirty overall. I assume the jamming was because of the condition of the gun, and not the overall build quality of the gun itself, which is the same thing my friend thought as well. I never thought a particular ammo would be the issue, but it makes sense. I do remember that it was a Kimber 1911 that we were firing, but I can't remember the ammo name - it was a black and gold box with white text, if that rings any bells.

The main reason for renting the guns was to get a feel for the different manufacturers, and to see how they compared. Granted they were somewhat poorly maintained, but they still gave us an idea of what the gun fired like. I'm not saying the 1911 was bad in any way, but based off of my limited experience with it, and my personal preferance, it wasn't my favorite. Perhaps, if given a chance to shoot a Kimber 1911 in better condition, it may change my mind. :) As of now, a SIG P220ST would be sweet, but dropping a G on a pistol seems like a lot to me, especially for a first handgun.

The Buckmarks are all basically the same, the only difference being the sights and barrel. I like the 5.5" bull barrel on the Camper the most, although the Contour 5.5 URX looks pretty cool too. I like 5" - 6" barrels for balance and aesthetics.

I'm thinking I just get the standard camper and add the URX grip and a fiber optic front sight and be done. And maybe a 7" tacsol tacticool barrel :teeth

If you could have any Buckmark? Which would it be?

http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/family.asp?webflag_=006B&catalog_=B

I'm 9 days from starting the DROS and the two choices current at TargetMasters are the camper 5.5" and the stardard URX (http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/firearms/detail.asp?value=006B&cat_id=051&type_id=409). I understand that it's hard to order any of the Buckmarks since Browning controls how many are produced. Any truth to that?

Thanks!

Man you have the sickness in a bad way. G'Luck with it..... some have it for a lifetime. I personally am in rehab.... been over a year since my last one. Mainly cus I dont have room in the safe anymore, and I dont have room for another safe.
