You just need the reciever before the ban goes into effect.

Pretty much anyone who wants one now is screwed. It is now the 21st and you must have the gun/reciever before the New Year. Remember there is a 10 day waiting period.

And for those of you who dont have one once I get mine finished and you ask me real nice, Ill let yah take her out for a spin.

4-What is the last day to buy a 50 cal? Can I still purchase a 50 Caliber Rifle?
According to NAte Barrell at the DOJ, ".50 BMG rifles may be transferred via the DROS process on or before December 31, 2004. Asssuming a customers DROS was initiated on December 31, 2004, he or she may take possession of the firearm up until 30 days from the date of the DROS submission which will no doubt be in January 2005."
So... you may puchase a 50 Caliber rifle up through, and including, December 31, 2004, as long as they are still available. Paperwork must be run no later than 12/31/04. We DO NOT anticipate having any rifles left at the end of the year. Back to Top

OK, I lied, that was after I figured out all the formulas.

This was my score my first run-through (72):

Goddamn wind gives me the fits. I can figure out the range just fine, but the windage adjustments get me all fucked up.

Well I have heard different from different people. I went the safe way and initated the DROS early and will be picking up before the end of the year. SO who knows maybe you can still do it. You know how it is. Different shops have different rules. At one shop I can walk right outta the store after the DROS with a handgun locked in a paper bag, and the other store I gotta have a locking gun case before they will let me walk out the door. Ohh yah and I still gotta have the gun lock on top of that.

I see where your coming from, I got mine with time to spare also, I pick mine up on monday.
The info I copy/ pasted was quoted from Nate Barrell at the D.O.J.
though.

Can't wait:teeth
Which one did u choose?

China's New Rifle the QBZ-95

Without gathering much attention, China has been introducing a new assault rifle for its infantry. The QBZ-95 is unusual in several respects. It's a Bullpup design, meaning the 30 round magazine is behind the trigger and overall length is 30 inches (compared to 34.2 inches for the AK-47 and 38.8 inches for the M-16). But even more unusual is the cartridge, it's a 5.8mm round developed in China. The Chinese experimented a lot during the 1980s, with new cartridges of different calibers (from 5.5mm to 6mm) and settled on the 5.8mm round in 1989. The QBZ-95 weighs 8.3 pounds loaded. There is a light machine-gun version that uses a longer barrel and a drum magazine. This weapon weighs 11 pounds loaded, but is awkward to use because of the heavy ammo drum sitting behind the trigger. There is also a "carbine" version with a shorter barrel. The QBZ-95 is also a complicated piece of machinery, with, as some users have reported, "too many parts" (especially compared to the AK-47.) The 30 round magazine, sitting behind the trigger, makes it awkward to fire from the prone position. The new 5.8mm cartridge does not appear to be much more effective than the short 7.62mm used in the AK-47, or the 5.56 round used in the M-16. So why is China creating an enormous problem of shifting from it's current arsenal of AK-47s to a new caliber? The Chinese aren't saying. There is an export version of the QBZ-95 (the QBZ-97) that uses the same ammunition as the M-16. But the QBZ-97 is not selling well.

Why create an enormous problem? In the name of progress! Why did the US switch from the .308 M-14 to the .223 M-16? The M-14 was a great rifle, and the M-16 was largely an ugly joke at the time. I still think it's an ugly joke, but it's worked for the past 40 years so I should probably stfu.

We should go to the 7.62x39..superior round. 7.62 NATO (51mm) would be even cooler. Makes large holes in people :)

Try marching with an M14 with 180rds and then do it with an AR and 180 rounds. After a few miles you'll be a believer in the AR. ;)

The AR is a fine platform and the M193 an adequate round for it's intended purposes. I love the M14 as well, but it is old tech and the .308 is mostly overkill. The 6.8 looks promising in overcoming some of the problems with the 5.56.
