Lightning Strike e-bike

Does Scotts Valley not count as part of the Bay Area?

Fair point. I actually didn't know Zero were local. I was thinking they were out of Oregon, but that was Brammo (now defunct).

I rode the Zero FXS, wanted to like it. We left the dealership in SF with 39% battery IIRC, aaaand it went to limp mode before we could even get to the San Bruno Mountains (taking 101). Then it died (unrideable) before we could get back to the dealership. Poor salesman had to push the damn thing back to the dealer. He let me take the Kawi Z900RS back so I didn't have to walk. Props to SF Moto!

Oh that's fucking dumb. Its a very different bike above 70%. I'm surprised you made it to SBM :laughing. You can ride mine if you wanna, I'll make sure to top it off.:laughing

I was at Lightning today. They have cool stuff, and I am confident they will deliver the new Strike in July, as promised. Serously.

I rode the FXS man that bike is a lotta fun to ride. I did a demoride on a Versys X300 with SF Moto and another dude took out the FXS and that dude looked like he was having a lotta fun on it it hauls. That bike is so small and maneuverable and feels just as powerful as the larger bikes.

But I'm going to get a Sur Ron hope it rips as much as the FXS!

That's what kinda sucks about electric bikes at lower SOC the voltage sags and they go into low voltage cutoff or limp mode. My Empulse does it, last week I was around 20% and was in 5th gear on the freeway and I goose it and I get a low voltage warning haha, oh better back off!

You were at Lightning, and?! And....? Well don't spill the beans or anything :laughing

I'm not too worried about when I get one (by 2020 would be nice) so much as hoping they'll still be around if anything breaks in the next couple of years. Wish our government could subsidize manufacturers or incentivize customers. The rebates we get are a joke compared to other countries. Especially when I would consider giving up my ICE bikes if the Strike is solid. Cash for clunker (bikes)?

The DIY community here is amazing, that and the tech is evolving so quickly that warranty, or factory support is not critical.

Ok, wth Lightning? Bike's been out for a week and you can't even update your website with anything more than a side pic and some stats? I know you're probably busy as hell, but can you please take 30 minutes to send some pics or a video to whoever does your site?

Thanks for the video on Vimeo. Rider's really taking it easy though. If you're not ready for a full press launch, fine, but at least for now show us what the Strike can really do!

Scandalous.

Looking forward to your impressions.

Enjoy it.

Thanks, Budman :thumbup

I've been on pins and needles for months, checking their site and the interwebs every day. I guess Yoda was right when he said, "Control! You must learn control!"

I was going to sell off my ICE bikes, but maybe I'll save them for a back-to-back comparison with the Strike first. I'm sure influencer-types will compare it with some new bikes, but hardly anyone reviews older, used bikes against the newer stuff.

Butch, what make you so confident? Do you have some insider knowledge? Motorcycles are not easy to get into production as a start up.

Just got this via email:

"Thank you for your reservation. We are excited to report that the Strike Carbon Edition is progress well and is on track to begin delivery in July.

Standard Edition will start after Carbon Edition later this year. We will keep you informed.

Our engineering team has worked passionately to integrate what we've learned in developing our world record setting LS-218s into your Strike.

We look forward to delivering your Strikes!

Sincerely,

Lightning Motorcycle Team"

I am happy to see this moving towards realization. Ye shall be as gods.

They seem to be following the Tesla way of doing things. Release the more expensive models first then the lessers on laters.

Richard Hatfield is a smart guy and is wary of the challenges similar endeavors have faced. I have no inside information, just impressions of his operation.

I will try to get inside information...

That image is very telling about their "production line". You have to start somewhere.

Hand made with love!

Hey Scandalous, did you reserve a Carbon Edition? I went and visited the shop last year and was so impressed by everything I saw, and by Richard's passion for the future, that I put in my deposit for one as well.

Email Dave or Richard to set up a tour, if you can. They're super busy with production at the moment, but you dropped the cash so I'm sure they'd make time to show you around. I can't wait to see the Strike in person!
