"Original Gangsta". It's used to refer to the people who've been around for awhile... the "originals"... the guys (& gals) who've put the years in. Every Founding Member is an OG... the people who've been on this forum for YEARS (like you) could be called an OG... it's like the opposite of "n00b"... :laughing

What's to stop the SF peeps from forming their own club? Southbay? East bay? At that point, why even have BARF?
You want to start your own club, by all means, go ahead. But no one on BARF is a misfit... we're riders, and racers. Everyone is welcome... no one should be excluded, and frankly, I loathe cliques... and deliberately creating one is crap.

Tina, I would happily jump in the truck and drive up some Friday night to go swill beer with you all night!! :love

I think its for another Napa night out ! Its been too long !! :Port

(derailment concluded) :laughing

DAMN DA DAMN DAMN! Sorry I missed all this craziness here! None of you really GET IT!!! Really and I am shocked and dismayed to see a few of you have been making fun of our group by saying "we're too slow to want anyone to ride with us" BS..that is just mean and unwelcoming by someone who I consider an OG around here and respect their opinions!

REALLY folks...Our misfits group is not exclusionary or some breakaway group from BARF. We all met through BARF...and like KOI said MANY MANY posts ago...Rod suggested a breakfast meetup on Sundays and we had our first one back in I think April. 6 of us met up..that was first time I met Koi. He then was willing to actually start posting up some group ride suggestions after our breakfast meetup. Since I was more of a noob than him and didn't want to be responsible as a group leader...Koi became the willing default group "leader" each week and has evolved into a trusted leader and someone I now consider a friend.

As our group of riders grew through planned meetups right here...ANYONE can come and we do have riders outside of the northbay who come and meet for breakfast and/or ride with us. We did start calling our group Koi's Misfits (Koi really had nothing to do with it) because he was our default group leader and was doing all the planning and leading..which because we had mostly noobs...he made sure he had noob friendly rides and kept us all on the route.

The patch idea came about as a friendly joke amongst us regular riders here with Koi and evolved into a "hey, we really need to get this patch made up". We feel BARF SHOULD be part of the patch because we are all proud BARFers and BARFettes. I have a BARF license plate frame on one of my bikes (still need to get the 2nd one for my new bike) and proudly support and talk about the fact I am on BARF and tell EVERYONE I meet who is not on BARF how wonderful it is! Hell..I became a better rider because of BARF members who reached out to help me when I first came on here..they are now my Misfit buddies. Koi, out of concern for some of us noobs who had some issues on rides..mainly dropping our bikes...reached out to the BARF community, asking for help with slow speed parking lot practice and we did one last month with a volunteer from here and have one this Sunday. Koi cares that his "misfits" are safe on their bikes and went out of his way to help us! That is why we will proudly wear a Koi on our patch!!!

Koi was joking folks about "you may or may not get a patch" if you donate..we are just trying to cover the costs of making the patch for us folks who want them. If you want a patch, great..if not..fine..we really are not excluding anyone from them..and we did say we would donate some to BARF to sell in the store and they can make some money to support BARF.

I think "offshoots" are cool..maybe one day the Travelling Barfettes will want a patch..or any other group of folks who band together who met here. I see it all as a good thing and extra advertising for BARF in general. I think the BARF logo SHOULD be used for consistency sake...just like any other brand..if you license it..you use what corporate has..rather than have many versions out there that don't really associate with the original. So Dennis was smart to allow this. This can only help to EXPAND the community..not splinter it! You guys all see it narrow and backwards...

I think we have a tendancy to get "attacked" on here because we are a vocal little group around here that likes to socialize and have fun and ride. We talk about our rides, we talk about other stuff around our rides and some of you OG anti-social BARFers seem to shoot us down for that..not sure why! We have no plans to leave BARF and start our own forum or group.. We love BARF and we meet new people every week who come out and join us. Our joke was if you can stand to ride with us at least two times..you automatically are a "misfit". It is just a fun joke for us a a group that gets together. Maybe one day Connie will actually haul ass over to Napa and ride with us and see we are not a bunch of slow noobs..sheesh..whether Dani(Horsepower) realized it or not..she was actually on a few "misfit" organized rides..and she hauls ass! And she towed me last week on one of those rides to help a noob! Thanks Dani! :thumbup..I think we will give her an honorary patch...she may be in denial she is now a member since she did two rides! :rofl

So you all need to step back and look at the larger picture here...that our little group of "Koi's Misfits" are all first and foremost, proud members of BARF who want to show their appreciation for BARF by using the logo on the patch but customize with our own fun group name..to me..no harm no foul..well except to a few of you old curmudgeons around here who rather bitch than ride with us! So there ya go! :twofinger

Now can we stop with the attacks and just all get along??? :ride

Very well put PattyA. It is a tough decision. I am glad I dont have to make it. Good luck. IMO - 2 patches, 1 = BARF, other one = Misfits.

Nothing tough about it! Dennis was actually smart to allow us to use the logo..brand extension! Free advertising (for BARF) to get more folks on BARF. Yeah...sure we could just wear THE official BARF Patch..but would not be the same as what we are trying to achieve.

These folks just need to get over it..BARF is a community of many folks..sub groups, subcommunities, etc..and the more they are associated to the "mother ship", the better it is for the "mother ship". If we were to just call it Koi's Misfits..the association and advertising for BARF is lost. We wear it loud and proud, so get over it folks!! Really!!

And the "Koi" thing really isn't about I am the Koi. It's just that the symbol of the koi fish means good luck or fortune. None of the patches read, "Koi's Misfits" it's either the word & fish or just the silly fish!

I actually agree that if BARF has it's own patch, then it should not be on the Koi misfits patch.

I find it odd that all of you howling at the moon over this wouldn't be seen with us in public on a ride because we don't meet your high standards. Talk about an "exclusive" clique!

And if we are a "clique", it would be one described similarly in the quote from Groucho Marx, "I wouldn't join a clique that would have me as a member"

Like I said Patty "good luck" I mean it. I dont have a problem with your patch, but I also see the other's arguement in that they being of BARF do not want to be associated to a Koi's Barf Mistfits.

I have not said anything and have let a lot be said.

I only have this to say. I have been involved with this group from its start. I myself am proud of what they have accomplished.

But BARF is BARF not BARF ?????

2 patches is the fairest answer. That is my only 2 cents.

Actually Patty..it has EVERYTHING to do with Koi(the guy) and not just the good luck symbolism. The only reason we are calling it "Koi's Misfits" is because HE has been our group leader..or I should say main group leader of the misfits and we are honoring his commitment to keeping us out there riding and safe.

And again...read my post about why it is smart to have BARF on it..especially for BARF..brand recognition and extension. It is really a win-win for BARF in general. We are not trying to replace a main patch..just add a sub patch of group that is a BARF created group..no replacement or splintering off..

Jayzus!

If you guys want a patch, make one. You don't need folks' (well, obviously Dennis's, which you got) approval. All this public show of we're a subgroup of BARF and we love BARF so suck it/get over it, it's so immature. But that's your style.

And most of the "OG anti-social BARFers" don't need to get over anything. They're party-hardy types, often traveling an hour or more to be with friends at social gatherings. That they also just happen to be some of the nicest people around who are willing to help others, well, that's just "moto love," now ain't it?

Besides, if you call yourselves misfits, then you are acknowledging you are anti-social non-conformists. Sure, social with each other and maybe a few others. But when you start telling the majority, "YOU JUST DON'T GET IT," why are you then presuming that everybody else is refusing to conform to your wants, desires and thinking? Disagreement is not criticism, and disagreement certainly does not say either, I hate your fucking guts. It merely means a difference of opinion.

And if the opinion does not meet your expectation, why do you insist the fault lies in the one who opposes your viewpoint?

We'll save you a patch girlfriend because you always have the most pleasant comments and thoughts to share with us and we love you for it! Peace out!:teeth

Jazus! Do you know how to read. Please go back to the very beginning of this thread whoever you are, then repost a response the resembles reality.

Budman said ok and it is his choice that truly counts here. It is up to the misfits' group or its leaders to go ahead or otherwise. Good luck on your choice.

Oh... I get it.

So this one time in the schoolyard, there was a new water fountain put in. This one group of boy cheerleaders decided to use it one time during recess, and then decided that they needed the water fountain a lot to splash on each other to get the perfect wet t-shirt look that all the boy cheerleaders loved. The rest of the schoolyard didn't mind on the first day the water fountain was put in because everyone knew that the schoolyard belonged to the school.

Then one day one of the dodgeball players walked to the water fountain and the boy cheerleaders were there. The boy cheerleaders didn't stop the dodgeball player from using the water fountain, but that area was the designated area for boy cheerleaders. At the same time that was when a photographer came by to take a picture of the different activities taking place during recess. the dodgeball player was caught in the picture with the boy cheerleaders!!!! Then the following day everyone that didn't know the dodgeball player was a dodgeball player (because let's face it, who knew who did what?) called them the BARF koi's misfits, I mean... the boy cheerleaders... instead of just kids in the schoolyard...

and the rest is... well i hope you get the gist of it. there may not be an intentional exclusionary act, but by representing yourselves in a group while associating yourself with the greater BARF community is exclusionary in itself. I'm just sayin' and my examples probably a touch off-base...

This is all kinda funny that you all feel "excluded" from a group of BARFers who you refuse to ride with (cuz ya think we are all slow noobs) or even come out and eat breakfast with us (cuz you cannot make your bike go all the way to Napa once in a blue moon). You could make up your own patch..let's see.."BARF OG Misfit/Noob Haters"...No room for your own fish with that much text!

Sigh...sad to see y'all don't get it..the whole misfits thing..if you don't consider yourself a misfit...so be it..we came up with the term for our little group because that is what we are..maybe not really misfits just a ragtag group of riders who get together with all types of bikes, all types of personalities, various levels of moto skills and attitudes..and we like to ride together..AND we all love and want to promote BARF JUST AS MUCH AS YOU DO PEOPLE!!! I think you will all live another day if we have a patch the way we want..will it really kill you to see this patch???REALLY??? C'mon...

No..you don;t actually get it..read some of our posts first. Promoting BARF as our "mother ship" so to speak..only helps the larger community..not hurt it..please tell me folks..HOW it hurts the community to have a patch out there witha group of BARFERs who make up their own little group? We are still promoting BARF...I think it is kinda cool that there would be other sub groups..east Bay barfer's..travelling barfettes...Ventura Barfers..etc..we could all have patches and trade em up...then we could proudly wear multiple BARF patches and promote each other AND BARF..no splintering or factions...just a collection of groups who get together outside the forum and ride together and associate themselves with a group AND BARF...really..why does that hurt BARF???

After trying to go to sleep and still :rant about all you BARF Nazi's out there... it occurred to me that that only way to truly respond to BARF Nazi's, was as a Nazi....

Vid is safe, however the subtitles probably NSFW, and if your boss speaks German the audio probably isnt' either.

I think you mistook my response as an attack or with connotations that simply aren't there. I didn't say it hurt BARF I don't think, I was just using an example to illustrate the point of misrepresentation of BARF. I could care less (I mean that literally, not as an attack. I don't care as in it imposes nothing on my life.) about your little group. I'm just telling it how probably the rest of BARF sees it and I believe it's a bit naive to completely disregard the opinion/thought completely.

For every nonBARFer/ette out there, they will see your logo and the impression will be "BARF Koi Palace" or whatever it is, instead of "BARF - Bay Area Rider's Forum". Does that get the point I'm trying to illustrate across better? So to the general non-BARF masses, you're representing yourselves as a group, they have no idea of what BARF is. So in turn, the collective group is misrepresenting the entirety of BARF.

I know I wouldn't overreact to it, but if someone said "Hey, are you one of those BARF koi guys?", I would facepalm Jean Luke Picard style, that's all. Best wishes to making the patches or not making them or modifying them, I don't care at the moment since I'm motorcycle-less :x. I'll just bookmark this for now until I get back on another crotch rocket after I'm settled to make a big fuss. :twofinger
