DAMN DA DAMN DAMN! Sorry I missed all this craziness here! None of you really GET IT!!! Really and I am shocked and dismayed to see a few of you have been making fun of our group by saying
"we're too slow to want anyone to ride with us" BS..that is just mean and unwelcoming by someone who I consider an OG around here and respect their opinions!
I think "offshoots" are cool..maybe one day the Travelling Barfettes will want a patch..or any other group of folks who band together who met here. I see it all as a good thing and extra advertising for BARF in general. I think the BARF logo SHOULD be used for consistency sake...just like any other brand..if you license it..you use what corporate has..rather than have many versions out there that don't really associate with the original. So Dennis was smart to allow this. This can only help to EXPAND the community..not splinter it! You guys all see it narrow and backwards...
I think we have a tendancy to get "attacked" on here because we are a vocal little group around here that likes to socialize and have fun and ride. We talk about our rides, we talk about other stuff around our rides and some of you OG anti-social BARFers seem to shoot us down for that..not sure why! We have no plans to leave BARF and start our own forum or group.. We love BARF and we meet new people every week who come out and join us. Our joke was if you can stand to ride with us at least two times..you automatically are a "misfit". It is just a fun joke for us a a group that gets together.
Maybe one day Connie will actually haul ass over to Napa and ride with us and see we are not a bunch of slow noobs..sheesh..whether Dani(Horsepower) realized it or not..she was actually on a few "misfit" organized rides..and she hauls ass! And she towed me last week on one of those rides to help a noob! Thanks Dani!

..I think we will give her an honorary patch...she may be in denial she is now a member since she did two rides!
Patty... seriously. I've been riding off an on for almost 30 years. I started racing because all I care about is going as fast as I can on a bike. Since it's stupid to do that on the
street, I took it to the track... and then to racing. On the street, I'll hold a good 30-40% in reserve... but I'm still all about going fast on the street. Like I said below, I don't do mellow rides, unless I'm pulling together a Newbie ride. Do you really think that a group ride moving at a pace that allows riders with less than 5,000 miles under their belt to SAFELY keep up is going to move at the same pace as some of the riders I'm trying to keep up with?? Yes, you guys ride a "mellow" pace... and that's great! But that's not how I want to spend
my day... there's nothing wrong with you guys riding at a slower pace- but that doesn't mean it's a pace EVERYONE is going to enjoy, so why the hell take it so personally? Criminy sakes, I have limited time to be able to get out on my bike, and I want to ride at a pace I enjoy.
Maybe one of these days you'll come out to the east bay, and take me up on the tow I've offered soooooo many times...
And personally, I don't think a bunch of splinter groups ADDS to BARF... I think it detracts. But that's my personal opinion, and you don't have to agree with it.
As far as you guys "getting attacked" goes, you don't. There have been a lot of more experienced riders who have TRIED to give you guys some pointers and guidance, and y'all don't always listen... but it's not an attack. BARF love is frequently tough love.
Very well put PattyA. It is a tough decision. I am glad I dont have to make it. Good luck. IMO - 2 patches, 1 = BARF, other one = Misfits.
Best suggestion yet!
And the "Koi" thing really isn't about I am the Koi. It's just that the symbol of the koi fish means good luck or fortune. None of the patches read, "Koi's Misfits" it's either the word & fish or just the silly fish!
I actually agree that if BARF has it's own patch, then it should not be on the Koi misfits patch.
I find it odd that all of you howling at the moon over this wouldn't be seen with us in public on a ride because we don't meet your high standards. Talk about an "exclusive" clique!
And if we are a "clique", it would be one described similarly in the quote from Groucho Marx, "I wouldn't join a clique that would have me as a member"
1. Thanks for seeing that, glad you and Joanne are on the same page.
2. Nowhere has anyone- including myself- said a damn thing about not your group rides not meeting "high standards"... but I do two types of rides- my "Newbie" rides, because I love working with Newbies and showing them the ropes, which is why I've spent so many hours (a lot longer than some of you have even been
riding) working with Newbies- either on group rides that I pull together, or one one one... OR I'm out riding with guys a hell of a lot faster than me. I personally don't have a middle ground... I don't
enjoy "mellow" rides with all sorts of time to look at the scenery. FFS, I can do that from a car... which is why I don't do things like the Hawthorne rally. I
race because all I want to do is go as fast as I can in the corners. I dial it back on the street... but I still want to go fast in the corners.
I know what type of riding I like to do... and I know the type of riding the Southbay peeps I ride with like to do... and we ride at a pace that would be dangerous for an inexperienced rider with a few months on a bike to try to match. Don't take it personally- it wasn't meant that way.
