So when you crash that motorcycle you aren't planning on using your medical insurance right? Paying out of pocket? Because that's a pretty risky lifestyle choice right there buddy and I don't see any difference.

I pay for health insurance and I have saved up enough to cover my max out of pocket. That means I paid, so I get to play. I did my part.

Someone who doesn’t pay for health insurance doesn’t get to play. Except they do. Then we all have to pay for it when they crash and don’t pay their bills. They didn’t do their part.

So that obese person that pays for his insurance? You ok with that?

The thinking behind helmet laws was reducing medical expenses for crash victims (reducing dain bramage), and multitudes of non-riders supported it with gusto.

Yup, I get that. And many, many laws have been put in place to reduce sugar in sodas, cancer causing ingredients, etc.

What SA is talking about is shaming people for their legal choices. It's the difference between yelling at someone for not wearing a helmet/ eating asbestos vs. yelling at someone because they are riding a motorcycle/ happen to have a gut.

If the government wanted us to be trim and healthy they wouldn't subsidize the corn industry and then complain when people get fat.

The government is made up of opposing interests. They are not a like minded collective such as the Borg.

They sure look like them

Yup, as long as he pays his (increased) share. Like how I pay out the nose for auto insurance because I drive like an asshole

That is different. You also should pay a higher medical premium (your fair share) due to you driving like an asshole and the increased risk of riding a moto. And I don't agree with this at all.

It’s not different. It’s exactly the same. I do pay higher premiums.

Matching concept. Match the expense with the benefit. It’s how the world works. Sorry you don’t agree with that at all :laughing

I suspect each one of those members hate each other and would just as soon stab each other in the back if that wouldn't hurt their own agenda. Unlike the Borg they are each driven by their own personal goals.

The Democrats are more like the Borg.

Haha that's a good point.

Actually, "The World" as you refer to it has dramatically different economic models for healthcare than we do. We are the statistical anomaly.

Spoilers: they're healthier than us with longer life expectancies, too.

You pay higher car insurance rates because of your previous history. You do not pay higher medical rates because of a lifestyle choice. That is a completely different thing. You are advocating that fat people pay higher medical rates due to their lifestyle choice. Yet, you don't see why you should also.

??? I LITT-RALLY SAID I should pay more

I have never been overweight, but I spent years recovering my health after some digestion-related issues. It took a shitload of work to get better. I think people who have taken these sorts of journeys and put in the hard work, naturally feel a bit disgusted by people that try to invent cheap excuses or workarounds for why they shouldn't also have to put in the hard work to solve their own health problems.

The people I feel bad for, are the people that work out and eat right, but can't shake the pounds because their metabolism is such that it fights weight loss. Most overweight Americans are just run of the mill piggies who eat too much and exercise too little. I don't think they deserve to be abused, but they almost don't have the right to claim that their body is "normal". And if a fat person starts to talk about body types, they are effectively opening the door to criticism of theirs.

So, I call bullshit on this excuse. I have this friend that was dieting weird for like a decade. Was usually big. Would complain she could never lose weight because of metabolism. Said she was doing her cardio. Nothing worked.

She went a year ago had a lap band and she is now like half her size. = Bitch, you just had done been eating too much.

:dunno

Body weight is pretty much Calories Consumed/Calories Burned. Math is math. If you eat only calories that you work out at the gym, the extra calories you burn just by sitting around running your organs all day will result in net weight loss. Most people just don't have the discipline for it though.

I used to be 100% on your side on this one, but some people do have medical conditions that cause them to store calories as fat. I don't know the actual numbers, but some people genuinely have glandular problems.
