i gotta disagree to a point. i went down and jeans and mine held up great. granted they were the thicker denim jeans. not those metrosexual faded/ripped crap. i will post pics after work tonight if u like. two very small holes around the ankle area. on one side.... not to bad if u ask me.

if i was wearing proper boots, i doubt they would of even torn the way they did.

i wear jeans. and will continue to. i also just purchased some a* riding pants. so ill alternate between the two.

You were lucky. It's just that those spots on the jeans didn't get any real abrasive time. There's not a pair of jeans out there, no matter how think that will come even remotely close to the cheapest leathers.

Yes, I'm guilty of riding stupid in the city when not exceeding 40mph. When commuting, I have overpants to protect my jeans. :teeth Full leathers for twisties and tracks. :thumbup

jeans....always....

cuz im too po' to buy leather pants and boots....:p

95% of the time, full gear (aerostich)

every once in a while I'll ride in jeans and a tshirt, frequently with sandals too (that actually stay on, not flipflops). i know that crashing hurts even in full gear... i'm willing to take the risk.

i wear these (serven for all mankind) , they are very comfy.

I always wear gear if I'm on my bike. If the trip is too short to bother getting geared up I just hop on my bicycle. Road rash at 20 mph is still road rash. I spent enough time busting ass on a skateboard as a kid to want a repeat of that feeling!

I always wear an armored motorcycle jacket, armored textile pants, full face helmet, gloves, and US Army steel-toed tanker books. I consider wearing gear part of riding, period.

In the rain I toss my rain gear over all of this. That's the only time I feel like I'm wearing too much gear. Of course I can hardly move I've got so many layers on by that point! :rofl But hey, I'm dry and safe.

when I go to school and it is too hot to wear my textile pants. I wear jeans with knee armor underneath, I don't like it but I can't see myself sitting in class with race boots and leathers, getting a mean case of swamp ass.

Any other time I wear full leathers and race boots

A lot of the issue, for me was lack of funds, and later, lack of appropriate sizes for big fat guys such as I

snipped and modified but still +1.

Jeans, 5.11 work boots, gloves, and jacket. On cold, night rides, I may sport my bullet proof vest underneath

Luggage. Hard stuff to lock the gear in and leave on the bike, or soft stuff to carry with you.

yeah I might try to carry a duffel bag in my backpack, then I can wear my race boots on my ride to school, I have a pair of sidi moto shoes that I wear, but I wouldn't put too much trust in them, I feel much safer with race boots

jeans plus kneepads. Only wear my boots if I'm riding somewhere far and 2 piece on the twisties

Very timely thread for me seeing as how I went down on my way home from work just today! It's actually the second time in the past couple months I've wiped out (the first time was waaaay my fault...this time I'm chalking up to dumb (no)luck) and both times I was wearing Dickes, Corcoran jump boots, cheap Motoboss gloves and a non-armored leather jacket. This is pretty much what I've always worn whether fucking around up 1 for 8 hours or headed to the store and I gotta say I've come out of the two little wipe outs unscathed enough to probably keep that level of protection on my commute and running up Mt San Bruno after work...that said I'm probably going to swing by Cycle Gear and look into some pants and maybe a new jacket before my next big ride.

i was lucky, no doubt about it. granted i didnt slid across the pavement, but i def skidded or so. the damage to my ankle was proof lol... but i still think jeans > other types of non riding pants.

leathers are def the best, not debating that.

I purchased an Aerostich for this very reason. You can put it on fast and it goes over your clothes. The other day I rode around the block to warm up my bike and I felt butt naked in my jeans and converse - never again. Idiots are everywhere, be prepared.

Full gear is for offroad adventures, speeding through the hills, long trips, or staying warm. I usaly don't wear the protective pants cause work is like 2.2 miles away from my house.:laughing
