Best performance tires for street use

So true, squids gave these bikes a bad name.

But for those who have owned (me), do own or will own a GSX-R, they most likely don't care what anybody else thinks. :thumbup

Definitely a squid bike a choice. But it's because they're damn good bikes and even morons caught on.

Never tried the crowd fav SC2's but pretty satisfied with Dunlop Q3's.

+1
I've heard great things about the dunlops. I have a few friends with Q2s and Q3s and they love them fro spirited riding. I have Brigestone Battalax bt16s and I think they're decent for riding the twisties. Just make sure you break them in on regular streets before you push em hard.

My point was the difference between a GSX-R and a "Gixxer" is the rider, not the bike....

Please elaborate on the difference between a rider that refers to his/her bike as a GSX-R or a Gixxer. I'd like to hear your lame, ignorant, generally categorizing definition. I for one, thought it was a simple nickname given to these bikes, apparently not, according to Point Dexter over here!

You're doing well to reenforce the meat head, squid, mentality that is generally associated with Gixxer riders.

If you like your bike, then ride it and let all the bullshit go.

If you're not aware, let me make you.

The GSX-R, Gixxer, is VERY closely associated with squids. If I recall correctly, they are one of the most crashed bikes, which generally results in higher insurance premiums. To ride a Gixxer does not make you a squid, by any means. But the way you posed your question, to some, comes across in a squidly manner.

I think the main offender here are the BARFers that responded with an attitude to your question and that's likely because you're riding a Gixxer. Total bullshit for sure. Your responses only fanned the flames of discontent. If you're to stick around BARF, a thicker skin is strongly advised. There are PLENTY of good responses here with tire suggestions. Write them down before you get banned for talking shit/making fun of other forum members.

I think you mean "Poindexter", but I digress.....

It's a joke, homeslice. Go look at the quality of threads posted on sites like www.gixxer.com. Historically, it's been 98% "wHaT kInDa tIrEs aRe dA BeSt?" or "wHeRe cAn i bUy rIm tApE?" The fact that you are asking about the maximum level of grip available for a tire to be used for canyon carving, puts in in that category IMO.

You're going to do you, but just realize that reckless street riding is typically looked down upon on this site. That's why most users are suggesting a Sport Touring tire like the Pilot Roads instead of essentially a cut slick like the Pirelli SC3, Power Cups, etc.... The limits of a DOT slick should be reserved for controlled environments, not Redwood Road.

Making stereotypical statements like that, which generally categorize all Gixxer riders is ignorance.

How would u know that I'm reckless street riding? Again, with the assumptions! I'm all for safety and riding within the laws. But who doesn't want more grip when they're doing a little spirited riding? It's all good Nick, no hard feelings. :twofinger

You're right. How foolish of me to assume that because you need the grippiest tire available on the market you would be going faster than the 35mph speed limit posted on most "twisties" in the Bay Area. At those posted limits, you could get away with a knobby tire on the back of that squidmobile.

I thought you were leaving..... :confused

Oh boy.... :facepalm

So, to summarize:

14:12 - "I'm done. Everyone go their own ways." (I won't bother to address the grammar. The intent is clear, at least)

14:21 - more butthurt

14:23 - Yet more butthurt

OP, you have been given plenty of good tire advice. My recommendation to you would be to request that this train wreck of a thread be closed. You should also relax a bit about the stereotypes associated with your bike. We know that not all HD guys are abusive alcoholics. We know that not everyone who drives a huge truck has a tiny penis. We know that not every gixxer/GSX-R rider is a squid. Reacting like you have to people poking fun is not the way to go. Either ignore it, or embrace the stereotype (as Abyss has done). Also: thicker skin. You are definitely going to need thicker skin.

But I love u guys too much to leave. Just to clear the record, I wasn't mad, angry, or upset at any of the posts. If u antagonize me, I'll return the favor. Enjoy your day! :)

would you rather:
1. short sale your house
2. neuter your liter bike with ST tires, such as the PR3 or PR4?

of those, i choose yes.

Q3, Rosso II, and PR3 all great tires
- Q3 lasted me much longer than Rosso II
- Rosso II may have best feel and feedback, but if so, only marginally so over Q3
- PR3 has worst feel, suprisingly good turn in, surprisingly good grip, will double or more in mileage over the other two, and best choice for people that also ride fast in the wet
-there is no wrong answer among these 3, very curious if people will like the PR4 as much as the PR3 regarding max grip / cornering

You know, I get the fact that one or two members can occasionally rub each other the wrong way. What I don't get is the other members piling on.

It this the image we want to portray?

I figured I would remind some of our seasoned veteran members what it is like to be a new rider. Remember not knowing much? Remember thinking you are starting to get it and knowing your shit?

Remember feeling superior because you have been on barf for 5 years?

Well forget that one because that does not mean shit. I must say when I see a post reflecting on how long someone has been here it just makes me laugh. Really..like being a member for a while makes you a better rider? more valued as a source of good info?

Not really...real vet moto folks get their creedo from the real world.. Not from posting on some website....so give it a break!

Thank you. :teeth
