Best performance tires for street use

Also, do you want short life or longevity?
Longevity! :party I already have a short pen0r
Butt I recon if ya don't ride much the ss tires would be fine.

And for the record, my race bike is a GSX-R600...
Yeah, butt wut kinda tyres do ya run?
:later

You know, I get the fact that one or two members can occasionally rub each other the wrong way. What I don't get is the other members piling on.

It this the image we want to portray?
You alwayz rub me the wrong way! :twofinger

would you rather:
1. short sale your house
2. neuter your liter bike with ST tires, such as the PR3 or PR4?

of those, i choose yes.

Q3, Rosso II, and PR3 all great tires
- Q3 lasted me much longer than Rosso II
- Rosso II may have best feel and feedback, but if so, only marginally so over Q3
- PR3 has worst feel, suprisingly good turn in, surprisingly good grip, will double or more in mileage over the other two, and best choice for people that also ride fast in the wet
-there is no wrong answer among these 3, very curious if people will like the PR4 as much as the PR3 regarding max grip / cornering

I don't get why you're comparing those to PR3 instead of PP3.

DOT slick

No such thing.

Anyway, I don't get the common mentality of "you can't outride a touring tire's grip, so why bother with anything else". Any additional grip only increases the margin of safety, whether riding at the speed limit, or riding too fast, or for evasive/braking maneuvers. If you can afford the sticky rubber, I say go for it.

Today's Sport Touring Tires, are closer to the high performance street tires then you'd realize. Have you spoken to any of the reps about their tires, tread compounds (and placements), and wear life?

If so, I'd bet you'd be in for a shock.

Again, FWIW: I rode on 2CT's on my busa and shredded them quickly. Being a fat ass'd loaded with power bike that I pushed hard, I expected that. Swapping over the the PR3's I noticed a bit of a loss of traction as compared to the softer sport compound of the 2CT. Again, expected.

People saying running the PR3's is equal to neutering a liter bike. Is foolish statement at best. Which they certainly are not track ready tires, they do a damn good job of meeting a good middle of the road compromise for performance and wear life.

Not really. The side compound was pretty soft I guess on the one ST tire I ever ran (BT023). So soft that there was no rubber on the edge of the tire and the center looked brand new. Profile was shot. All that extra hard rubber in the middle did me no good.

So, more traction on a sport tire than a sport touring tire? That's the point.

But to blast the PR3's and say you're neutering a liter bike by running them. I'd say your statement is foolish at best.

I stand by my statement... hey wait a minute, I never said anything close to that...

Been super happy so far with S20s on the street wheels for my R6. Replaced a pair of Diablo Rosso IIs that I never liked or trusted. Grip has felt consistent at various ambient and tire temps as well as in the damp, and I really like the profile... very stable under braking, but drops into turns VERY naturally. Much more eager to turn than the Pirellis were. I've run them to their edges but never felt like I was at their limits. Wouldn't hesitate to do a B group trackday on them.

Also very eager to try Q3s, but not seeing any reason to mess with a good thing right now.

I don't think that is what most people are saying. What I like about ST tires is the fact that they actually provide MORE grip in many real world riding scenarios. Cold, wet conditions? ST tires are better. Sport tires are not sticky unless you get enough heat into them, which is not always easy or safe to do on the street.

I like the BT-023, mainly because i commute from Brentwood to Santa Clara every damn day...

Running these on the multistrada 1100 right now and they have been great. Haven't noticed them as better or worse than the PR2s I had on there previously, which is a reasonable endorsement. Haven't had them long enough to make a judgement on wear and haven't really pushed them to their edge, but took them close on a damp saturday a few weeks ago and they never worried me.

Based on my experience with the S20s, I'd really like to try the T30s when the 23s are done.

I put on about 17k miles on my last set before it started to cord, and mind you my bike is my daily driver.
